Iconic’s Cinsault Nouveau 2022 is made 100% carbonic and sourced completely from the exciting new Sprague Vineyard in Clements Hills. Planted in 2018, this young vineyard is already showing a lot of promise in the first commercial fruit. Planted in red rocky loam soils on the western side of the Clements Hills, the site gets the benefit of the rocky soils the AVA is known for while still getting some nighttime cooling from the delta breezes typical of sites farther west. Two barrels from separate lots were combined to make this wine. The first lot was a single ton, fully destemmed and sealed into a large tote. It fermented untouched for 16 days before the free run was drained and placed into an 80 gallon stainless steel barrel where it finished primary and secondary fermentation. The second barrel was neutral French oak filled with free run juice from a larger lot of 50% whole cluster. The final blend was assembled a few days before bottling.
